Prevent Tooth Decay In Your Toddler

Your toddler’s baby teeth are setting the stage for what is to come. By taking care of their smile now, you will help them keep their smile healthy for a lifetime. Some people think that baby teeth are no big deal because they are going to fall out anyway. However, not taking care of their baby teeth can create decay and other problems when their adult teeth come in. Here are 4 ways to prevent tooth decay in toddlers: 1.      Don’t have them drink juice at night, and give them a minimal amount during the day. Once they do consume a small amount of juice have them drink a cup of water or brush their teeth to remove the sugar that wants to stay on the surface of their teeth. 2.      Avoid sugary snacks. Fruits and vegetables are always a better choice because not only are they essential in keeping their smile healthy, the water in vegetables and fruits can keep sugar from building up or staying on the surface of their teeth in between brush...

Common Dental Problems Your Child May Face

Image
While it may seem that your child should not face the same dental problems as you do because they have only baby teeth, or maybe they don’t have as many of their permanent teeth in, they in fact, face all of the same problems you face.   Plaque and decay can build up on their teeth causing cavities and if the cavity is not taken care of then there may be a need for a more invasive dental procedure such as a root canal.     Preventative dental care is the key to protecting their smile from plaque and buildup. By having them brush, floss and receive routine dental cleanings you can prevent minor problems from turning into a major dental problem. Gum Disease, while it isn’t typical, in children, is possible. You may notice signs of redness or swollen gums. Without proper treatment, it can lead not only to more severe dental problems such as loss of teeth, but it can also lead to health problems later on. Gum disease is an infection that the body is fighting. T...

Are You Saving Their Baby Teeth?

Image
Doctors may be urging parents to hold onto their child’s baby teeth because one day it may save their life. Research shows that baby teeth contain stem cells that can ensure that your child has the ability to cure a number of diseases, as well as potentially grow tissue.  You may be thinking how can a little baby tooth impact the overall health of my child. Research shows that when the right combination of chemicals are added to stem cells it can actually increase the number of stem cells in order to fight off life threatening diseases and other problems your little one may face in the future.  While some parents are keeping cord blood for this benefit, don’t panic if you missed this possibility. You now have another option. The other nice thing is that you can plan to keep their baby teeth even if you didn’t keep cord blood. This option gives you some extra time to do your research and determine if this is an option for you and your family.  If collec...

Should My Child Have Multiple Loose Teeth At One Time?

Image
It is an exciting time when your child’s first tooth falls out. This is a milestone for them and after one tooth falls out, it can seem as if there are a number of teeth that are now loose. There is no need to panic, it is perfectly normal for them to have 2 or 3 loose teeth at one time and can have up to 6 teeth loose at one time. While most of the time this is no cause for concern and it is perfectly normal here are 3 things to consider when ensuring that their adult teeth are growing in the way they should. Sometimes, two baby teeth will become loose when an adult tooth pushes them out of the way. Some teeth that have an infection or are injured may result in multiple teeth being loose at one time.   If you are worried about your child’s baby teeth or if some of their teeth do not look right, contact their pediatric dentist, Dr. Fuller, in order to get them scheduled for a routine visit. For more information on loose teeth, contact Dr. Cam...
