Your Special Needs Child - 3 Tips For Brushing

Image
It can be very difficult to get your child to brush and floss their teeth. It can be even more difficult for parents who have a child with special needs. Let your child pick out their toothbrush and pick more than one. Just because a toothbrush looks awesome in the box doesn’t mean it will be awesome when they put it in their mouth. Purchase a couple of different ones they want to try to allow you some options. The head of the toothbrush should fit comfortably in their mouth. Give them plenty of time in the morning and evening. When should your child have there first dental exam/visit?

Many parents often question when their child should have their first dental appointment.  According to Cameron Fuller DDS, MS, an American Board Certified Pediatric Dentist and owner of  Pediatric Dentistry of Redlands , states that  "every child should be seen by 6 months and no later than their first birthday."   Dr. Fuller believes that this gives the doctor a chance to provide your family with important information such as the child's diet, child's habits (thumb sucking or pacifier use), hygiene, tooth eruption sequences, and an opportunity to discuss questions the parents may have.   This helps increase the chance that your child will grow up with a healthy mouth.
