Yes, Toothpaste Can Expire
Did you know that toothpaste can expire? FDA recommends that toothpaste that has
fluoride in it should be switched out after two years. While you think your
children using expired toothpaste may not seem like a big deal, it can be.
Fluoride toothpaste is designed to help keep your children’s enamel healthy and
keep their smile decay free.
Using expired toothpaste decreases the effectiveness of
brushing. As the toothpaste looses its ability to bind to the enamel of your
teeth, it does not remove bacteria from your children’s smile.
Toothpaste after time can also begin to separate causing the
taste to become more unpleasant which can decrease your children’s desire to
brush their teeth on a regular basis. The taste can become bitter and
disgusting. Not only does the taste become disgusting to your children’s taste
buds, it further can become so dry and hard they are not able to squeeze the toothpaste
out.
But stop! There is no reason to throw out that expired toothpaste,
Google has numerous suggestions on how to use expired toothpaste, including
cleaning the sink. The silica in the toothpaste is able to clean your sink and
faucet because it is a natural abrasive.
