Did You Know?

There are tons of dental facts that float around out here. Here are 5 of the most common myths about your children’s oral hygiene.

1.     Kids do not need to brush until all of their adult teeth are in.
This is false. It is really important they brush their baby teeth as these are the backbone of the health of their adult teeth.
2.     Children do not need to floss, food doesn’t get stuck between their teeth. False. It is critical that they floss to keep their gums healthy.
3.     They do not need to visit the dentist until they are 5 or 6. They should visit the dentist as soon as their first tooth erupts. This not only sets the stage for the importance of visiting the dentist, but this helps ensure there are no underlining problems with their smile.
4.     Children do not need sealants. Actually sealants act as a barrier to protect the enamel on their teeth. This helps decrease the risk of cavities and decay.
5.     Young kids already get fluoride they do not need extra. They do not need a ton of fluoride, but it is critical to ensure they have some fluoride to keep their teeth healthy. They should get some fluoride in their drinking water, but if you are noticing problems with their teeth, talk to Dr. Fuller and his team about your concerns.
