Preventative Dental Care Is Not A Myth

Preventative dental care is not just a myth, it is a way to protect your children’s smile. Over ½ of American children are impacted by cavities, and dental decay is the number one preventable disease in America. Take time to help keep your children’s smile healthy with these 5 preventative dental care tips.

1.     Take them to the dentist at least 2x a year. This trip to the dentist helps to find problems that you may not see by just looking in your child’s mouth. Cavities, gum problems and decay can hide in places you do not see. Taking them to the dentist for a routine cleaning helps to take care of problems quickly.

2.     Replace their toothbrush every 3-4 months and sooner if they get sick.  After 3-4 months of your child using their toothbrush 2x a day, the bristles begin to lose their ability to remove plaque from the surface of their teeth. When they are sick the germs and other bacteria in their salvia can stick to the bristles causing them to become sick again.

3.     Have your child consume fruits and vegetables? They are not just good for their bodies but also great for their smile too. Fruits and vegetables have extra water that helps keep their mouth moist as well as decreases the buildup of food and sugar on their teeth in between brushing.
