4 Reasons Your Toddler Should Not Chew Gum

You may have heard chewing sugar-free gum in between meals can help to keep your child’s smile healthy because it can remove food from the surface of teeth, but your toddler should avoid this practice. Gum is a choking hazard for kids under the age of 5. As they run around and play, it is easy for them to get gum stuck in their throat. They do not understand the concept of chewing something without swallowing because prior to this, they chew food and swallow.

Instead helping your toddler to brush and floss is a better practice. If you are concerned about their dental health, visiting Dr. Fuller and his team can help put your fears to rest as they can analyze the oral health and evaluate any problems that your child may have with his smile.

And always avoid regular gum as the sugar can be detrimental to their teeth. Healthy oral habits are being established when they are young, and having them consume sugar can cause cavities and other problems with their smile that will can cause damage for years to come.
