4 Signs Your Child Is Grinding Their Teeth

It may not seem like a big deal when your child is little and grinding their teeth. But a lifetime of this habit can cause negative problems for the health of your child’s smile. While it is common in children under age 11 and it may be considered, “normal behavior,” it can be troublesome to hear as a parent. If your child is grinding their teeth, you may want to consider scheduling an appointment with their pediatric dentist in order to ensure there is no long-term damage. Here are 4 signs your child is grinding their teeth.

1.     You hear a noise in their room at night like nails on a chalkboard. This sound is squeaky, high-pitched and can really bother you if you hear it.
2.
Teeth that are flattened, cracked or chipped. This is a serious problem and should be looked at immediately by your dentist.
3.
Jaw or face soreness. If your child is consuming breakfast the next morning and they are wincing in pain. This may be a sign they are grinding their teeth at night.
4.
The enamel on their teeth is worn down. This should not happen right away, but if it does it can cause increased sensitivity and should be looked at.
