Oral Thrush - What It Is?

Oral thrush is a white yeast infection that is common in babies. It can cause irritation around your baby’s mouth. While it can inpact anyone, it is more common in infants and can be spread from you or other adults kissing your baby. While we all have a buildup of bacteria in our mouths, most of the time our immune system is strong enough to fight this off. But babies do not always have the ability to avoid this infection from growing.

Once your baby has it, you’ll want to schedule an appointment with your pediatric doctor in order to get medical treatment. While it should go away in a couple of weeks, it can be painful and cause your baby to not want to eat. Once you get medication it is usually applied several times a day. You will want to apply the medicine to the inside of their mouth where the thrush is located.

If your baby gets thrush, you will want to thoroughly sterilize all of their bottles, pacifiers and any toys that they chew on. It can continue to infect your baby if not taken care of.  If your little one continues to have symptoms of thrush, you will want to take them back into the doctor to see if there is something more going on.
