What Should You Do About Stains On Your Child’s Teeth?
Your child may have brown stains on their teeth that are
impacting their self-confidence. But is it really appropriate for your child to
have tooth whitening? At what age is it okay for teeth whitening procedures?
Dr. Cameron Fuller, suggests that you leave teeth whitening procedures until
they are older.
Bleaching baby teeth not only can cause problems with
matching the same color of their adult teeth, but whitening their teeth can
also lead to pain or other problems. Teeth whitening substances penetrate the
enamel on their teeth which can lead to sensitivity. In the meantime stick to
healthy dental habits such as brushing, flossing and visiting the dentist as a
regular basis.
Chose the food they consume carefully if you are seeing
staining on their teeth. For example, strawberries and other high acidic foods
can stain their teeth. Eating healthy fruits and vegetables and consuming water
can keep food that stains from sticking to their teeth. If your child is still
impacted by staining after the age 12, talk to Dr. Cameron Fuller and his team
about options. It is important that
before any whitening is done, that their adult teeth are in and their baby
teeth have all fallen out. They should also be done with any orthodontic work
they need.
