Do You Have The Facts?

A general dentist is great, but a pediatric dentist might be even better for your children’s dental needs. Pediatric dentists go to school for an extended time in order to be able to fully understand how to support your child in the dental chair, and they attend child development classes to be able to learn ways to calm and work with your growing child. This care is critical in developing a positive relationship between your child and their dental staff. They also know what is normal and not normal for your child’s smile.

Your child is not a little adult that can be handled in the dental chair the same way as maybe your 15 or 16-year-old. They require a gentle, caring individual who understands the importance of helping them to feel comfortable. Too much of adult dental phobia is linked to childhood dental trauma.

Your general dentist may not recommend seeing your child until they are older – 4 to 5 years old, while Dr. Fuller and his team recommend scheduling the first dental appointment right after the first tooth has erupted. There are problems that can develop with your child’s teeth and we want to get a head start on identifying them and correcting them early. By having them visit the dentist as soon as the first tooth erupts it helps to give them your child the best care possible.
