6 Tips To Dispelling Anxiety In Your Kids At The Dentist

It can be very hard for your children to visit the dentist. Time after time they may kick, scream, cry and beg you not to take them. It may be so difficult to get them into the chair that you’ve all but given up on taking them to the dentist at all. After all, why go through all of that despair if they brush and floss regularly. But unfortunately, problems can hide beneath the gum tissue, in between the teeth, and cavities form quickly. It is critical to take your children to the dentist. Here are 6 Tips from Dr. Cameron Fuller that can help your kids at the dentist.

1.     Have them brush and floss regularly. If they are visiting the dentist with a smile that is healthy they will be less likely to need a dental procedure.
2.     Provide them notice they are visiting the dentist. This gives your children time to adjust to the news and ask any questions.
3.     Visit the office prior to their visit. Let them talk to the dentist and the front office staff. If there is time they may even be able to sit in the chair for a few minutes.
4.     Begin their routine visits after their first tooth has erupted. This will help make it routine instead of something special.
5.     Allow them to take something that comforts them, a stuffed animal or a toy can help.
6.     Read them a story about visiting the dentist. When your children know what to expect it will make it easier for them during the visit.

It is never easy to watch your child be in distress. Helping to make the visit easier can ease their anxiety. For more information, contact Dr. Fuller & his team.
