Tooth Removal Is Never Easy

In the event your child has sustained severe dental decay or breakage, it may be the recommendation of the pediatric dentist to remove the tooth.  There are several things that Dr.Cameron Fuller will evaluate prior to the removal of a tooth. Here are the three most common questions asked by parents when their child is going to have a tooth removed.

1.     Will my child be awake during the procedure?
                        a. Most of the time, yes. We want to make sure that your child is able to stay still during the procedure in order to avoid problems. There are multiple options when it comes to the treatment for your child and depending on their needs will depend on what type of atheistic is recommended.

2.     How can I help ease any anxiety?
                  a. Kids who are going to have a major dental procedure may feel anxious prior to the appointment. In order to help, explain to your child what to expect. They can take a stuffed animal with them to hold onto during the procedure. It may be beneficial to read them a story about the dentist helping kids.
3. After the procedure, what should I expect?
      a. Depending on the type of atheistic that your child was given will depend on the result after the surgery. It may take them awhile to wake up and they may seem groggy or out of it.  You will be given after care instructions on what your child can and cannot eat, and any side effects you should watch for.

Dr. Fuller will only remove a tooth if he feels it is necessary for the dental health of your child.
