There are so many options when it comes to dentists. How do you know if your dentist is the right fit for you? Ask your dentist these 4 questions in order to determine if they are the right pediatric dentist for your family, because your children’s dental health is critical and they deserve the best.
  1. Is the dentist a general dentist or a pediatric dentist? A pediatric dentist has gone to school specifically to become a pediatric dentist. They have extra classes that help them meet the unique needs of your child.
  2. Are they friendly? Customer service is important and you should feel at home when you enter the office. Do they greet you? Or do they ask if they have to meet your needs? Customer service should not take a backseat to good care says Dr. Cameron Fuller. At his office, he feels it is essential that when families bring their children to his practice they feel comfortable.
  3. Does the pediatric dentist explain what procedures are going to be done? No question is a dumb question. You should never feel that your questions are bothering your pediatric dentist.
  4. Is the practice suited for your child? Do they have kid friendly furniture or do they have a practice that is set up for children? The more that the furniture and décor is suited to children, the more comfortable your child will be when they have to visit the dentist.

What is a dental abscess?

One of the most common conditions affecting children's teeth are dental abscesses.  Children with severe cavities often have teeth that abscess.  Abscess of lower left primary tooth.  NOTE the tissue swelling on the tooth. Once the cavity invades the pulp of the tooth the infection spreads to the bone. At that point the tooth is no longer salvageable. A dental abscess is a swelling of the tissue around an infected tooth. The following symptoms may result from a dental abscess.  Children can often present with facial swelling, fever,  altered eating habits, poor concentration, poor sleep patterns, breathing problems, and general malaise. The treatment that is always recommended is antibiotics and extraction.

Do You Have Time For a Dental Emergency?

Dental emergencies for your children can crop up at any time and while some of them may not be able to be prevented, some can. For example, dental decay that damages the root, causing a need for a root canal, can be prevented with routine cleanings, regular brushing and flossing and ensuring that your child consumes healthy food.
